2016 Solid APHA Registered Bay Mare

Athletic APHA mare for sale
She’s at the trainer’s getting rode!

This mare wasn’t supposed to be for sale. However, we are having a drought that will force a lot of difficult decisions. This is one of them. She is an astonishingly pretty mover and amazingly athletic. We don’t keep solid Paints as broodmares unless they are really special. Watching this mare move you know she is. She’s got the speed and athletic ability to make a breakaway horse, a calf horse, a heel horse and of course she’d make a barrel and pole horse.

Her dam is a daughter of the great barrel sire Raise Your Rocket – a fast, quick-footed stallion who sired 1D and futurity horses.  She is fast and athletic herself as well as being easy to get along with. Despite her cowhorse bottom side, I’ve seen her outrun racehorse mares at short distances. She has just been a broodmare for us but we did have her started and the trainer really liked her.

This filly’s tail female line goes directly to two horses who were foundations of Merle and Rose Marie’s program and instrumental in their early success as breeders. Her third dam, Reeds Little Queen, was a daughter of Rose Marie’s great stallion, Reed Silvertip. He was the last grandson of Joe Reed P-3 and a very successful local sire. Her dam was Merle’s great little mare, Chief’s Queen Bee. In addition to many other successful horses, Queen Bee’s first foal was Kristin’s Appaloosa gelding, Apache Joe A. He was a World Champion team roping horse, a 7 time Canadian National Champion and 4 time Reserve Canadian National Champion in a variety of timed and cattle events including barrels, poles, and team penning. His versatility was amazing, but this was back in the days when that was still possible. He was a state and regional year end high point performance horse and high point youth horse more times than we could count.  He won at everything from western pleasure to jumping to reining to all the timed events.  He was also an amazing ranch horse and he worked all week. He had just 30 days breaking by a professional and another 2 weeks tune up a year later. After that, a pre-teen Kristin rode him and Merle roped on him.  He was just a natural at pretty much anything you asked him to do.

As exceptional as the foundation of this pedigree is, each generation since has added more speed, turn and competitive ability.  If you are looking for a cow-run cross barrel racing prospect this filly is a great prospect. She also has lots of rope horses in her pedigree and looks like she’ll make a tremendous calf, breakaway or heel horse prospect. She stands about 14.2.

If you want to read more about this family of horses, Merle’s autobiography features them prominently.

If you can ride a really good one – you’ll enjoy this mare!
