Reckless Guy x Chase This Ivory, producer of over $900k in barrel earnings

It was a truly daunting job to find a stallion who MIGHT be good enough to step in to breed our CCs Last Warrior daughters. After all, Perks has been an exceptional sire for us. Have to admit, VF Chase This, absolutely nails it!

While building on Perks’ exceptional athletic ability and without sacrificing trainable minds was my biggest concern, I had a couple of little things I was looking for too. Even though they don’t shut off the clock, a pretty head and fancy color are sure nice bonuses.

As difficult as finding my “next stallion” was, at least I had friends with the same problem. As I was getting a few really nice Perks daughters of breeding age, my friends Bonnie and Paul Orvedahl at Flying O Ranch were having a similar issue – too many good looking, great minded, Panther Mountain bred mares they couldn’t breed to their son of Panther Mountain, Kay Too.

To make it better, we have owned stallions together before. I knew you can’t beat Paul and Bonnie for partners. When Chaser came up on our radar, we knew we’d found the horse we needed.

Conformation, disposition, and eye appeal

Chaser is a big, stout, solid correct individual. He’s got great feet and bone, lots of muscle, and he’s got withers made to keep your saddle where you need it. While he’s bred and built to sire barrel horses, I am sure he’s going to sire rope horses too.

Everything about this horse says power. Whether you are leaving a barrel or dallying off on a steer, this horse will sire colts with all the power you need and more.

He’s also a fun, easy stud to have around and that’s a requirement around here. I just am not going to put up with difficult studs. Chaser has a quirky, fun personality and he doesn’t fall in love with everyone immediately, but he’s quiet, respectful, and very well mannered. Last summer when I decided it was time to pull him out of his mares, I walked to the pasture with a halter, walked up to him, put it on, and we walked out of the pasture and to the barn without a bit of drama. None of my mares would have left so quietly!

So all those traits definitely fall into the must have category. But this horse has so much more going on! He has eye appeal absolutely busting out everywhere – good conformation is important but this horse is also just flat out gorgeous! His head is so pretty, he’s got big, kind eyes too. Everything about him is just smooth, in proportion, and fun to look at. And let’s face it, that deep buckskin color is hard to beat too!

Obviously, leading barrel sire Frenchmans Guy needs no introduction. His sons are continuing his legacy as amazing barrel horse sires. Well known as a great cross on racebred mares, we can’t think of a better cross than a daughter Reckless Dash – a stallion I’ve been a huge fan of since I saw him in Oklahoma years ago. Good looking and good minded, he was just the kind of racebred stallion who makes a barrel sire.

Although Reckless Guy hasn’t had a well-financed career at stud, he is a solid barrel and pole horse sire. He’s had foals make the finals at Fort Smith and sell to Italy as performance horses.

His Dam – Chase This Ivory

Sires are made by good mommas. That’s just how it works. If you want a sire, you have to have a great momma. It’s pretty darn hard to beat Chaser’s dam as a barrel producer. She is truly an elite broodmare.

Chase This Ivory is just a 2009 foal herself – relatively young for a barrel horse broodmare. She is already the dam of over $900K in progeny earnings, an AQHA World Champion in Junior Barrels, a Lazy E Arena record setter and more. In addition, she has several exciting prospects coming of age.

It’s obvious from that list that the 2019 mare by Eddie Stinson is the rock star among a group of rock stars. She won over a half million in her futurity year and continues to run well. One of her huge wins was the Breeder’s Challenge Futurity. She won, and she despite her rein coming off between 2nd and 3rd. Now, that’s a mare that wants to win!

We are excited to see our first foals – they will be born in Montana this year – arriving in May of 2025. He’ll be breeding mares in 2025 in North Dakota.
