2024 Sorrel AQHA Appendix Colt
Wow – I expected this mare to produce a very nice colt – her full sister in blood has been an amazing producer – but I have to admit he really exceeded my expectations!
This colt is by CCs Last Warrior and out of a daughter of Golden Slew from the female family of Charmin N Rockin – winner of the Eastern Regional Qualifier for the 2023 The American. This colt already shows the traits we think have made both stallions exceptional sires and great crosses on the One Slick Possum family of mares.

Look at that sloping shoulder! Golden Slew had as good a shoulder as you can find and he passed it on every time. This colt looks like he’ll get some of Slew’s size and substance too. He’s defying the standard “first foal” effect and is big, strong and really, really fast. One night he was goofing around as his damn was running from the pen and back to the other mares. Then he shifted into high gear and I’m not sure I’ve seen a young colt run that fast ever. If you can ride a really fast horse, you will love this guy!
And have a look at those hocks! We call those Perks hocks for a reason – he just stamps his colts with those powerful, correct, blast you away from the barrel or out of the chute hocks.
This young mare has been such a great, protective momma. However, it was time to get her checked out after a week or so and she was sure that getting in the trailer (never a problem before him) was not something that a good momma would do. I mean, she wasn’t getting within 30 feet of the trailer. He’d never been touched, but thankfully, he proved to be his sire’s son. I just walked up to him, put my arm under his backside, and guided him to the trailer. He loaded like an old rope horse and of course she followed him right in. I love the minds on these Perks foals!
