2017 Black Solid APHA Registered Colt
Are you looking for a cow-run cross barrel racing prospect? This guy is going to have a ton of speed, turn and grit! In addition, he’s got a ton of personality already. He will be a great prospect for someone who likes really quick, turny horses and can ride a top level prospect. He’s also a heel horse, calf horse or breakaway horse prospect.
His dam is a daughter of the great barrel sire Raise Your Rocket – a fast, turny horse we bought specifically to complement My Indian Money and his daughters. She is fast and athletic herself as well as being good to get along with.
His tail female line goes directly to two horses who were foundations of Merle and Rose Marie’s program and instrumental in their early success as breeders. His third dam, Reeds Little Queen, was a daughter of Rose Marie’s great stallion, Reed Silvertip. He was the last grandson of Joe Reed P-3 and a very successful local sire. Her dam was Merle’s great little mare, Chief’s Queen Bee. In addition to many other successful horses, Queen Bee’s first foal was Kristin’s Appaloosa gelding, Apache Joe A. He was a World Champion team roping horse, a 7 time Canadian National Champion and 4 time Reserve Canadian National Champion in a variety of timed and cattle events including barrels, poles, and team penning. His versatility was amazing, but this was back in the days when that was still possible. He was a state and regional year end high point performance horse and high point youth horse more times than we could count. He won at everything from western pleasure to jumping to reining to all the games. He was also an amazing ranch horse and he worked all week. He had just 30 days breaking by a professional and another 2 weeks tune up a year later. After that, a pre-teen Kristin just rode him. He did have a lot of miles behind a cow. However, he was just a natural at pretty much anything you asked him to do.
As exceptional as the foundation of this pedigree is, each generation since has added more speed, turn and competitive ability. If you are looking for a cow-run cross barrel racing prospect this colt is a great prospect.
If you want to read more about this family of horses, Merle’s autobiography features them prominently.
If you can ride a really good one – you’ll enjoy this colt!
