2018 Brown Appendix AQHA Mare – Broke to Ride
Big, strong, smooth-moving mare with loads of ability. She is well started under saddle and ready for her new career. She has potential in disciplines that require a horse to be sensible, athletic, fast and smooth-moving. She could excel in several English events, as a team roping/heading horse, a barrel horse, and she is already a ranch horse. In my opinion, the best home would give her a chance to do a variety of events.
This one is difficult to write. This mare was never supposed to be for sale. She was supposed to be a broodmare here her whole life. She’s the best Golden Slew foal we raised.
Sadly for us, something caused her to suddenly abort late in her first pregnancy weeks before she was due to foal. The result is that she will not successfully carry a foal to term because of a damaged cervix. Our vet sees no reason she would not be able to be an ET donor, but that option is not feasible for us.
Our loss in the broodmare band can be your gain for the competition arena. This turn of events presents a rare opportunity for a dedicated rider to acquire a mare of exceptional quality and potential.
Since she’s a riding horse now and I don’t ride often enough anymore to warrant a mare with this kind of ability and talent staying here as just my saddle horse. (If I was younger!) She deserves a home with a talented and consistent rider who can take her to the top.
She stands at least 15.3. If you need to know exactly, I’ll stick her for you. She cinches really deep and look at those saddle-holding withers. From her beautiful head with her refined muzzle and kind eyes to her elegant neck to her powerful hind end, this mare’s conformation is excellent. In addition, she has her sire’s solid bone and good feet. My farrier comments on how good her feet are.
Secret is well started under western saddle now. Has been pasture roped off of a little. She is well on her way to being a super ranch and heading horse if that’s the way you want to go with her. Her exceptional movement is apparent to anyone who sees her in person. She’s very smooth riding.
While only ridden western, her movement and natural athleticism suggest potential in dressage, hunter/jumper, and cross-country events. This versatility opens up a world of possibilities for her future owner.
She’s smart, kind and brave. Even when she’d had little handling, she was easy to work with because if you gave her a minute to think, she was willing to do whatever you wanted. That sensible, willing mind will make her a super star in the right hands and of course it’s also why she was able to be broke to ride at age five.
